Happy New Year – 2012

How many of you have heard, read or watched the movie, ‘Alice in Wonderland’? There is this famous dialogue from that very movie:

Cheshire Cat: There you are!

Alice: Oh, no, no. I was just wondering if you could help me find my way.

Cheshire Cat: Well that depends on where you want to get to.

Alice: Oh, it really doesn’t matter, as long as…

Cheshire Cat: Then it really doesn’t matter which way you go.

In the same way, if you don’t define a destination, aim, goal to yourself, you will not know where to go. You will be stranded. And stranding in life is not what one expects. There must be some meaning to the very existence of us on this planet. And in finding that purpose and living to achieve that, will be the best thing that can happen to us.

There are only three steps towards success:

Find out you goal. (Destination)
Plan the path or way that you want to achieve your goals. (Nature)
Just do it (Action).

The following three books will greatly influence you, in achieving your goals, if you have faith in them. Those books are ‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne, ‘The Greatest Salesman in the world’ by Og Mandino and “The Magic of thinking big”.

The Ten Scrolls that were mentioned in the “The Greatest Salesman in the world” are mentioned below concisely:

Scroll 1: Today I begin a new life.

Scroll 2: I will greet this day with love in my heart.

Scroll 3: I will persist until I succeed.

Scroll 4: I am nature’s greatest miracle.

Gutting out my Frustration!

     Long back(not very long), I was in my B. Tech dreaming of working 
in some MNC company with lots of projects, great team and under the 
guidance of a great manager. Finally on the D-day, first interview and 
the company was CTS. I was not selected. I thought probably my utterly 
poor subject skills let me down. Then came Infosys. I knew that Infosys 
HR policies concentrated around the soft skills, so I prepared well and 
cleared the interview. Then I entered the Mysore campus with sprawling 
lawns, innovative and creative, spic-clean buildings and roads melted 
my heart. Probably just stepping into the campus itself was a kind of 
achievement in itself. 

             The Training started with Soft Skills training and then it 
started with the Computer fundamentals and then with Network concepts 
and then Software Development Life Cycle and then Web Fundamentals. The 
training listed above was of Generic stream. Completely WITHOUT BIAS 
and out of PURE BUSINESS REQUIREMENTs, I was put in the batch that 
was to be trained in JAVA. The STREAM(that is what it is called), was 
more of a systematic process of eliminating/ousting the excess and the 
non-creamy layer. JAVA, UNIX, PL/SQL were taught within two fortnight.
Then came the outcry of us being trained for FINACLE(the only IBU which
 every trainee freaked out the most). Training for FINACLE started with 
Operative Accounts and later went into the Investment ID creations). At 
that moment I felt like with INFOSYS kind of training even a Ph.D., that 
requires years of study and research, could be received in a month. As 
though the Stream selection was completely of BUSINESS requirement, the 
location of Deport was also based on that criteria. I got Mysore(Out of 
pure luck). Then they said that Chennai required 5 folks urgently. 
I planned to move to Chennai. But out of clouds came the call for folks 
to Bangalore and with pure luck I was moved to Bangalore.
               Coming to Bangalore and working here gave me completely 
a different perspective than what I imagined in the first paragraph 
or rather my graduation. I started working on Structured Products.(Now 
don’t ask me to explain what it is.) Then I was asked to work in 
Automation of Mutual Funds(without any training.) Thank god the 
project lasted just two weeks and I was thrown into the Manual 
testing of MF. Then I worked on FI-API(web-interface of Finacle). 
Then I worked on EQUITIES for a short while before being thrown 
back to SP again. Thank god that the Team support was great and 
had a great mentor as my TL and ML. Then came the Business 
requirement for FI-API test planning. A pretty decent work helped 
me get a good appraisal. Next comes the SWIFT(Society for Worldwide 
Interbank Financial Transactions). Worked close to 10 hrs., 5 days 
a week and 4 weeks a month(this is far more than the average SE work). 
The SWIFT was on EQUITIES and BONDs. Now am being introduced the 
AUTOMATION again.(Both Capture and replay). It’s not that I hate 
AUTOMATION, but it’s the technical work that bothers me. The next 
time I might be thrown to work on OPTIONS and FUTURES or some other 
project that I’ve hardly heard of. The team, the TL/ML, the manager, 
the mentor, the company, the atmosphere/environment everything is 
great. Only that there is a mismatch between my interest and the 
kind of work am allocated to. Probably next year will be my last 
in this SOFTWARE INDUSTRY.

You all must be guessing that the journey was probably towards a place on a map. Nopes, i’ve started my journey towards my goals. Planned 65% of the journey. Yet to complete the planning and strategy the remaining. I even wrote a poem to commemorate this occasion. Here it goes:

Am a warrior,

without a barrier,

no heaven above,

no earth below,

no opponent ahead,

no ruler behind,

Ready to take on the World,

With only VICTORY in my mind!

My first speech in life.

The below lines are what I delivered as a part of my Ice-Breaker at Toastmasters.

Speech Heading: Rise like a phoenix.

“ Mister/Madam Toastmaster, fellow toastmasters and all those who want to know how I lost the love of my life, lend me your ears.

My interests: Organizing school annual day, hands and crafts, pencil sketch. My achievements: 36 Certificates in Co-curricular activities, 9 in academics, 6 cups, 3 memorabilia. My successes: Many participation certificates at Zonal & District level sports and science competitions, leadership roles from Representative of the class to the School Head Boy. But none of these Interests, achievements or successes helped me in meeting my love of life. I could only dream day and night of holding my love in my hands and kissing her before an audience of 1500. But the dream never dawned to the brightness of the reality. It remained a dream forever. My love was not the neighboring chirpy girl Priya; it was the “Best Student of the Year, the Camfordian Award”.

Now that I told you about my love (stress on love), let me tell you about my sweet family. Right after I was born at CMC in Vellore, my patriotic GM i.e., my grand-mother named me after the reformer Iswara Chandra Vidya Sagar, thinking that I would grow up like him. She didn’t know the future for sure. The only common point between my Tamil mother and father from Telugu speaking land apart from them being my parents are their repeat words”

Mama, I’m not going to school today…… what?

Mama, I bruised my friend today…. What?

Mama, I bunked my class for Rajanikanth’s movie…. What?

Dad, I want to become a lawyer… No way.

Dad, I want to go on an adventure tour to the Nallamala forest… No way.

Dad, I would like to do management in fashion technology… No way.

That was my stern father from the army and through a complete genetic inheritance I got a very athletic physique. I was good at academics too. This also laid the path for me to win many prizes in sports and education. I remember the 2003 Independence Day, when my mother gave me a bag to collect those.

There was no Engineer from our family, so the only choice I was left with, after my schooling, was engine-erring (sorry it was engineering). I would spend (‘the’) whole of each day to plan for the next day. Which meant, mathematically, I wasted my two years of engineering planning how not to waste the other two.

After four years, when the D-day arrived in the form of Campus placements, I utterly failed. My friends found their destination. But I didn’t. It felt bad. But like I said, I take my inspiration from the phoenix. I brought my spirits up and worked hard, burning the midnight oil. And when my day had come, the spontaneity, the creativity and the enthusiasm in me were at their peak. It was Infosys. The dream company of many aspirants. The interviewer asked me to impress him. I got an idea then and there and explained him a concept about using Nano-robots and HSGLT3 protein in blood to detect glucose levels and how internet, Wi-Fi, mobile and cloud-computing can be a part of this. He was impressed and I was in.

Getting into Infosys is the biggest achievement in my life. I’ve had two recent notable achievements:

1. On the spot award for the September month.(why it’s an achievement: I bagged it in the first two months of my production)

2. Conquered Mulayanagiri( it’s the highest peak in Karnataka)

These being my achievements, let me tell you about what I lost. I lost my love (as I said earlier the Camfordian Award) for one credit. The credit was not in my pocket then, but is now. I missed (‘it’) not since I lacked it, but since I was not passionate enough about it. I’ve discovered over time that this credit is indeed an art and now I’m in love with this art. I thank Infosys and ITMC that gave me an opportunity to find my love. Yes, Toastmasters and guests my new found love is Public Speaking. If life ever throws me a love problem or any other problem and if I ever fail, I know what to do. Rise like a phoenix.”

August the 15th…

Hooray… It’s Sunday. I love Sundays, since they are fun days. Vidyaaaaa! Just kidding. Travel, Food, people, atmosphere, everything is different on weekends. Saturday night was a long-long night. I watched two movies to quench my filmi thirst. “Varudu” and “Bendu Apparavu”, both telugu movies. Slept at 4:00 in the morning only to be woken at 6:45.

Visited SIVA temple in Domlur. What a sight it was seeing the deity. I stood there speechless looking at the beautiful idol. A serene sight. Siva was surrounded by beautifully scaped mountains and I went around the magnanimous idol that stood 30-40 feet tall. Right in front was a small pool of water. Vividly done and picturesquely looking. Was amazed by everything that was there.

In the afternoon, I headed to my uncles house. Met aunt and nephew ( viggi- still a toddler). Had good home made food. Ate boiled eggs after a long time. Since it was Independence day, I searched for a patriotic movie being relayed in any of the broadcasting channels. But to my awe I didn’t find one. ‘Thats what is important to channels’ I thought and moved on.

Reached home at 20:00. Was tired and slept soon.

Its party time and I’m missing my friends here … All of them are busy in their works and I’m just lonely … But this year , my parents will be with me …

So this new year shall be very special to me and to you all too … Well I’ve planned a lot for the new year and wish those turn out true … I’m making ten resolutions this year and will try to stand on the stones …

After a long interval from Infosys, I got my mails that were due. It’s a go-gaga time for me. Everyone in the family is happy about it. Especially my mother. She prayed to god, for this, everyday. My best friend Jeevan(22nd DEC) is celebrating his birthday today. Wished him in the morning. He’s coming tomorrow morning. We’re going to have a great time together. Well I’ve got less than two weeks to join and this SAMAIKHYA ANDHRA strike is making the life tough for me. I’ve got to make an arrangement and see that everything goes as planned.

Its not me … Its my cousin who crossed the borders to achieve his dreams … He boarded the flight last night at the Chennai terminal, and the flight headed towards Bombay … It was a splitting moment that went through the heart … My father, grandma and grandpa apart from his parents were all there wishing him, when he left the security terminal … Thats it …

My friend Mohammed Akram called me last night and recollected all those reminiscences … Those college days were the best of my life … How can I forget the pranks played by us on our lecturers … Missing u all dude …

Its my brothers birthday …

Well my brother just reached home yesterday night after a long journey form Nellore. My mother was in a shock to hear that my brother was on the way back home. She did not expect that, since he did not convey the message in advance to her. Family is finally happy that he is back home.

In the morning he went to temple and he is having a rocking time here. Well got to plan for a movie. Its been a long time that we both have been to a movie.

On the fringe of the enjoyment platform !

Wow … Six months of enjoyment and now am going to get trained in one of the toughest Training centers in the whole world- INFOSYS, Mysore. Its looks a little weird for me when I think that I will be another sheep in the herd(going to get a software training). But I’ve got others high aims in my life and this will be my first step towards that …

So what am I waiting for …

Well I am waiting for the right time to strike … My teacher taught this to me … She said we can be a little impatient when hunting for a prey, but if you want to bring down the predator you’ve got to have patience and wait for the right time to strike with a pin-point accuracy … That was the first-ever thing that really went into my dumb-head … She also taught me that problems were just solutions without a question mark … She insisted me to look into them as though they were pictures …

Well she was the best at her profession and now I want to walk in her foot steps …
